Model History
The Chevrolet Nova (also called Chevy II) was introduced to the market by Chevrolet in 1962. The car was a small enough car to be an American.
The Chevy II nameplate was dropped after 1968 and only the "Nova" nameplate was used from 1969 on.
GM renamed the Chevy II in 1969 and now called it Nova, then after 1971, like other GM divisions, Chevrolet began renaming the Nova as a new entry-level vehicle, like the Pontiac Ventura II, Oldsmobile Omega and Buick Apollo. The initials of the four model names spelled out the acronym NOVA (Nova, Omega, Ventura, Apollo.)
