This little wonder, with an excellent power to weight ratio, has been designed to offer a unique and memorable driving experience to all those who have the chance to drive it. The exposed wishbones and springs as well as the side-mounted exhaust give it a race car look, but besides the appearance, the Caterham is a performance car made for the track, but that doesn't prevent you from taking it out on our beautiful mountain roads on Sunday!
There is nothing to plan on the Caterham we have here, it is just waiting for you!
The whole hood is present with the vehicle, especially the hood to cover the passenger compartment to protect it from the sun. The presence of the windshields is a plus for the comfort of driving with the top down to redirect the wind.
The last owner of the vehicle was a woman who knew how to respect the maintenance on time and who always drove the car by passion and only in summer. She acquired it from a professional in Lausanne in August 2010 and has kept it and pampered it to this day.
The car was appraised in September 2022, for this, here is the work done: (Invoice in the photos of the ad)
On the outside, the body is in good condition, the fenders and the hood are recently painted. One thing is to be noted at the level of the hood, the paint covers an old poc letting appear a light mark. The rims are not the original ones, they are Lotus Super Seven rims that are installed. The tires are in good condition.
As for the interior of the vehicle, the condition of the seats is more than correct, the steering wheel (Moto Lita) is in great condition, only the belts are a little worn with time. The floor is not covered with carpet, it is in excellent condition, convenient for cleaning! No holes are present at this level either. The hood is in very good condition, having been used very little, the leathers of this one do not present any trace of pronounced wear.
Mechanically, there is no visible seepage, everything works properly according to the owner, the clutch is good. The chassis is entirely made of aluminium, so there is no visible rust under the vehicle, the exhaust pipe, on the other hand, shows a little bit of rust, due to its age (and maybe its position...).
To summarize, everything works correctly on the vehicle, a maintenance has been done for the expertise of the car recently, no particular defect is to be noted, there is only to climb aboard and take the road!
With a policy of "Always lighter and always more powerful", Caterham (formerly Lotus) has always known how to distinguish itself in order to offer simplicity but above all quality. But let's start from the beginning:
It is in 1957 that Collin Chapman, the founder of Lotus Cars will build the "Seven", a sports car and track car completely stripped, succeeding the Lotus mk6. Collin Chapman will base his design on the principles of aeronautics in order to gain in lightness. Weighing between 500 and 575 kg depending on the model, Colin Chapman's famous quote "Light is Right" takes on its full meaning.
In 1973, the production of the Lotus Seven was stopped, but Caterham Cars, founded by Graham Nearn, bought the production rights and continued to manufacture the model under the name Caterham Seven. The car was originally intended for racing drivers, but it became very popular with sports car enthusiasts and was later produced for the general public.
The Caterham Super Seven is offered as a kit or fully assembled, which will appeal to certain buyer profiles. Numerous models will be produced thereafter with evolutions over the years such as a 5 speed gearbox as well as a replacement of the axle by a "De Dion" axle but also disc brakes between 1985 and 1988, the Ford engines will equip the Super Seven until 1991.
The British company is committed to maintaining the tradition of the famous Lotus Seven, created in 1957, by offering only pure, unfiltered and authentic vehicles. At the end of the 80's, the company will attack the European market bringing to the brand a growing success.
In 1982, Colin Chapman passed away, leaving the Lotus company facing major financial problems, largely due to the DeLorean project. However, his legacy also includes a way of thinking and producing remarkable cars that would not have existed without him.
- "Any car that stays whole more than one race is too heavy."
- "Adding power makes you faster in a straight line. Taking weight off makes you faster everywhere."
Colin Chapman
