Audi officially unveils the Audi 80 at the Geneva International Motor Show, successor to the Audi F103, The Audi 80 also served as the basis for the Volkswagen Passat, which was offered from May 1973. This was called the Audi Fox in North America and Australia and passed the million mark (1,103,766 units) in May 1978. The Audi 80 was a great sales success after the first oil crisis in 1973 thanks to its light weight and very economical engine. Designed by Hartmut Warkuss, who had already designed the Coupé 100 S and would later design the Bugatti Veyron, the Audi 80 met the expectations of modern, dynamic and demanding customers. It was awarded the "Car of the Year" prize in 1973. It was replaced in late summer 1978 by the Audi 80 B2 with the same technology, which in turn was replaced by the Audi A4 in 1994.
