History of the model :
In 1964, Volkswagen bought the Auto Union Group and resurrected the Audi name. A year later, in September 1969 at the Frankfurt Fair, the manufacturer went one better by developing a coupe from the sedan: the 100 S! The design is contemporary, very flattering and reminiscent of the famous Fiat Dino Coupé.
Like the Audi Sport Quattro and the Audi RS 2, the Audi 100 Coupé S is a pioneering model in the history of Audi sports design. It is the first Audi to bear the S characteristic of the brand's sports cars with the four rings. This "fastback" line, inspired by the American sports cars of the 1950s, could not be stranger to the famous Audi Sportback body.
At the rear, the design was inspired by the Maserati Ghilbi and the Ford OSI. From 1970 to 1976, Audi produced 30,684 examples of the 100 Coupé S.
There were two versions: the V1 with 115 horsepower and the V2 with 112 horsepower.
Under the hood is the 1.8-liter four-cylinder of the Super 90, but it was enlarged to 1.9 liters, making it a super-square. With two Solex carburetors (instead of a single carburetor on the Super 90), power increased from 90 hp to 115 hp. This remained the company's most powerful engine until the introduction of the fuel-injected five-cylinder in 1976. The 100 S coupe reached 185 mph and accelerated from 0 to 100 mph in 11 seconds.
This model was the first Audi to make it into a collection, and the only one before the Quattro was launched.
