Swedish elegance and strength.

Let yourself be seduced by this elegant Volvo P1800S, offered for sale after being carefully preserved by the same owner for three decades. Presented in its original condition and sublime color, it is now for sale as its current owner no longer finds the opportunity to drive it as often as she would like.

The "S" in P1800S stands for "Sweden", indicating that this is a 1963 model made in Sweden, and therefore more reliable than those produced before that 1963 in the UK.

This Volvo P1800S is equipped with a 4-speed + Overdrive gearbox. This model for sale is a pre-1964 version, known as the "moustache" version because of the lines of its bumper.

History :

The rich history of this Volvo P1800 is as fascinating as its design. Following the death of its first owner, the car was bequeathed to a monastery before being acquired by the current owner. Given to her by her father when she was studying in California, she cherished this car for thirty long years. Since then, the Volvo has accompanied its owner to various countries, acting as a faithful witness to her travels.

Vehicle condition :

Exterior: The bodywork, magnified by a previous restoration, sparkles. The few imperfections lie mainly in the chromework, which shows signs of age and wear. The rims, true to their original condition, show no rust or significant wear, only slight marks caused by age.

Interior: The interior bears witness to a rich history. The dashboard has a few cracks, and the meter dials show cracks, typical of the model. The front seats have been reupholstered, while the rear seats retain their original charm. Some chrome parts show slight traces of rust, but the trunk and spare wheel are in impeccable condition.

Mechanics: The P1800 reflects Scandinavian reliability. Its engine is in perfect working order, and its future owner has nothing to anticipate in the way of major work. The chassis shows a few superficial traces of rust, but no perforations.

History of the model :

The Volvo P1800, unveiled in 1960 at the Brussels Motor Show, quickly became a symbol of elegance and performance. Designed by Sweden's Pelle Petterson in Frua's Italian workshops, this car combined the glamour of Italian Gran Turismos with the robustness of Swedish engines.

Particularly famous thanks to Roger Moore, who drove it in the series "The Saint", the P1800 is also known for holding the world mileage record: a 1966 model, acquired by American Irv Gordon, exceeded 3 million miles in 2013. In 1963, its name was changed to Volvo 1800 S, indicating that it was manufactured in Sweden. Combining timeless lines and safety innovations, such as the first seat belts for all passengers, the P1800 has become a true automotive legend.

As an anecdote, at an event in Hamburg in 1961, a P1800 was suspended by a crane, held up only by its seatbelts, demonstrating their robustness to an astonished public.
