The Volkswagen Type 2 , officially known as Transporter, Kombi or Microbus, or, unofficially, as Bus (USA), Camper (UK) or Bulli (Germany), is an advanced light commercial vehicle introduced in 1950 by the German car manufacturer Volkswagen as a second car model. After and initially derived from the - first model of Volkswagen, the Type 1 (Beetle), it received the factory designation Type 2.
The word "Combi" is the abbreviation of the German word Kombinationenwagen, which can be translated as "multipurpose" and became, in France only, the nickname of the most widespread version of the Volkswagen Type 2.
In Germany, the country of origin, it is mostly known as "Bulli", bulldog, for the similarity of the front face of the first generations, the "split-windows".
6 generations of Volkswagen Combi or Transporter or VW Type 2 (the Beetle being the Type 1) have followed one another for more than 60 years.
