In preparation for the appraisal in 2020, the car underwent a complete overhaul, which included replacing the brakes and battery. Since this overhaul, the car has covered just 1500 km. Other recent work includes bodywork and replacement of the front bumper.
A number of jobs have been carried out this year:
The paintwork has retained its shiny appearance, which highlights its metallic highlights. As for the bodywork, there are slight paint imperfections on the front bonnet. The wings have been scratched and retouched in certain places.
Once inside the Beetle, the cabin is in generally good condition. The seats, despite a few dirty spots, have been carefully maintained. The headlining looks brand new and the woodwork is in very good condition. The steering wheel shows very few signs of wear.
The engine is in good condition, so no work is required. The chassis shows a little rust, but remains sound.
Despite a few body imperfections, this Beetle offers a pleasant driving experience thanks to its perfectly functional engine. It's a real marvel to admire and a collector's car that's sure to attract attention and turn heads. Stored under cover, it's ready to hit the road and bring old-fashioned pleasure to its next owner.
The Volkswagen Beetle is an iconic car that has marked the history of the automobile. Designed in the 1930s by Ferdinand Porsche at the request of the German government, the Beetle was initially intended to provide an affordable car for the masses. The first Beetle, also known as Type 1, went into production in 1938. It was characterised by its rounded design, simple and reliable mechanics and robustness. It quickly became popular in Germany, before conquering the world.
Over the years, the Beetle has undergone several evolutions and improvements. The Beetle 1303, produced from 1972 to 1975, was the latest development of the real German Beetle.
The Beetle 1303 differs from the earlier versions in several major ways. Firstly, it had disc brakes at the front and a fuel injection system, which gave it slightly more power. It also has sharper steering and better handling, as well as a distinctive curved windscreen. These improvements have helped to make the Beetle 1303 a better performing and more comfortable car than its predecessors.
As a matter of interest, in 1973 the Beetle 1303 was chosen as the official car of the German police. However, this decision was soon called into question when a police officer attempted to chase a Porsche 911 in a Beetle 1303. The pursuit ended inauspiciously for the Beetle, which was unable to keep up with the powerful Porsche. This story was widely reported in the German media, which somewhat tarnished the Beetle's reputation as a police car. Despite this, the Beetle 1303 remained popular with civilian drivers and continued to be produced until 1975.
