The exterior condition of the vehicle is remarkable, the paintwork is beautiful and has no bubbles. Only a small crack is visible on the driver's door, which has always been there. The interior of this Talbot Matra Murena is impeccable, with seats in very good condition with no signs of pronounced wear and a well-maintained dashboard. Every detail has been carefully preserved.
Yokohama tyres in excellent condition ensure a safe and pleasant drive.
Under the bonnet, a pampered engine takes its place with no sign of seepage or leaks, and no trace of rust either. The engine has been well looked after, so there's nothing to worry about.
When you reach under the vehicle, not a single trace of rust is visible, nor is there any apparent leak.
LED lights are fitted to the vehicle by the owner to save him having to raise the original lights, these can be removed very easily. The inside of the rims have been painted black.
The Talbot Matra Murena 2.2L represents a milestone in automotive history, as it is the last collaboration between Talbot (formerly SIMCA before its integration into the PSA Group) and Matra. The result is an iconic GT car that combines the expertise of two renowned French manufacturers.
After disappointing sports car customers with the Matra-Simca Bagheera, the two marques decided not to leave it at that and unveiled the Murena at the 1980 Paris Motor Show, with delivery beginning in 1981. Its exclusive design, by stylist Antoine Volanis, offers slim lines and optimum visibility thanks to its large, sloping windscreen.
The bodywork is made from composite materials, in particular SMC, to ensure excellent resistance to corrosion, while the self-supporting frame chassis, protected by hot-dip galvanising, gives it great rigidity and impeccable roadholding thanks to the front and rear suspensions. The innovative interior offers three seats abreast, each with an individual seat, providing a more logical and comfortable configuration than a traditional 2+2. The level of finish and equipment is remarkable, with details such as honey velour seats, tinted electric windows, rev counter, windscreen wiper timer, etc.
The Murena is available with two original engines: a 1.6-litre and a 2.2-litre. The 2.2-litre engine, limited to 118 bhp, offered decent performance and was complemented by a more powerful version, the 'Preparation 142'. This preparation was manufactured by Matra from 1982 onwards, enabling Talbot dealers to boost the 2.2L engine to 142 bhp, although only 74 official examples were produced.
480 examples of the Murena S were produced and unveiled in 1984, equipped with the factory "Preparation 142".
In the 1980s, GTIs took the European car market by storm with their small, light saloons and powerful engines. The Peugeot-Talbot network showed little interest in its future, and sales suffered. However, the Murena S was launched to satisfy 480 lucky customers with performance worthy of the competition. After the break-up with PSA in 1983, Matra worked on an innovative project that would lead to Renault's Espace. The Murena thus marked the end of the collaboration between Talbot and Matra, symbolising the transition to a new automotive era.
