Launched in 1983, the Fiat Panda 4x4 has become an icon of compact, accessible off-roading. Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, already famous for his creations such as the Volkswagen Golf and the Alfa Romeo GTV, the Panda followed in the footsteps of Fiat's economical cars, the 126 and 127 models. Initially launched in 1980 as a practical and inexpensive city car, the Panda quickly evolved with the arrival of its 4x4 version, a veritable revolution in the world of small off-roaders.
Fiat wanted to offer a vehicle capable of braving the most difficult roads while remaining compact and light. The Panda 4x4, weighing in at 740 kg and featuring all-wheel drive developed in partnership with Steyr-Puch, was the perfect answer. With a simple lever, it could activate its four-wheel drive, making it an ideal ally in rural or mountainous areas.
Despite its modest dimensions and modest engines, such as the 965cc 48hp, the Panda 4x4 won the hearts of adventurous enthusiasts. It remained in the Fiat catalogue until 2022, selling more than 800,000 units and making its mark on the history of Fiat, becoming a key icon in the European motoring world.
