Today we present to you one of the rarest of the rare: the BMW 635 CSI Baur. Imagine yourself behind the wheel of a one-of-a-kind masterpiece of German engineering, cruising the streets with distinction and elegance. It's much more than just a car - it's the only one ever built by the factory.

This BMW perfectly illustrates the marriage between the expertise of the BMW brand and Baur's meticulous bodywork. It's the ideal collector's car for enthusiasts looking for a rare model.

History :

Its journey began in Zurich with its first owner, who kept it from 1981 to 2018 before selling it to someone near Délémont. Its current owner acquired it in 2018 and now wishes to sell it for family reasons.

Reviews and maintenance:**

In preparation for its certification as a veteran vehicle in 2021, this work was carried out:

  • Full service
  • New front shock absorbers
  • Lighting adjustments
  • Ignition adjustment
  • Engine tuning
  • Valve lash adjustment.

It was last checked before this in 2018, attesting to its rigorous maintenance.

Details and equipment**:

  • A Getrag reverse gearbox equips this BMW
  • Recaro leather seats
  • The vehicle's original tools are supplied with the car.
  • Every document of the modification made by Baur is preserved, offering a window into the car's past.
  • It has its FIVA passport, reflecting its authenticity. Its logbook is also present, but in poor condition.

Vehicle condition**:

Externally, its bodywork and paintwork have been well preserved over time, despite some minor imperfections on the driver's door and in certain areas, notably on the front bonnet (visible on the photos in the advert). The chrome is scratched in places and could do with a little attention. Inside, the leather seats, although showing the marks of time, remain in good condition, while the headlining and dashboard are impeccably preserved. The boot shows no pronounced signs of wear.

As for the mechanics, every component is in perfect working order and nothing is to be expected. There are no traces of rust on the underside of the car, demonstrating the care taken by its owners.

Model history

The history of the BMW 635 CSI plunges us into the world of the great sports coupes that defined an era. The BMW 635 CSI is the embodiment of German design, performance and technology at the end of the 20th century.

Launched in 1976 as part of BMW's E24 6 Series, the 635 CSI was conceived as the successor to the E9 Series. From the outset, the 6 Series E24, and the 635 CSI in particular, was hailed for its elegant design, long profile and refined luxury.

Under the hood, it was powered by an M30 in-line six-cylinder engine. Over the years, this engine has been upgraded from 185 hp to 218 hp in European versions. In addition to its outstanding performance, the car also offered excellent roadholding thanks to its sophisticated chassis and MacPherson front suspension.

The 635 CSI was not only a beautiful luxury car, it was also a force to be reckoned with on the track. In the 1980s, the 635 CSI played a dominant role in the European Touring Car Championship and also enjoyed considerable success in the Australian Touring Car Championship.

The Baur version: Stuttgart-based Carrosserie Baur was a specialist coachbuilder with a long-standing relationship with BMW. Unlike conventional convertibles, the BMWs modified by Baur had a partial canvas roof, while retaining a rigid roll bar for enhanced safety. The BMW 635 CSI Baur is a rare version of the E24 series, combining the luxury of the 635 CSI with Baur's unique touch. These Baur conversions are particularly prized by collectors for their exclusivity and combination of BMW performance and handcrafted bodywork.

Production of the 6 Series E24 ended in 1989. It was replaced by the 8 Series, but the 635 CSI is still remembered as one of BMW's most emblematic coupés. For many, it represents the pinnacle of luxury coupe design, combining elegance, performance and innovation.

The BMW 635 CSI is more than a car; it reflects an era when performance, luxury and design were at the heart of automotive philosophy. It remains a major piece in BMW's rich history.
