History of the model :

In 1964, Volkswagen bought out the Auto Union group and resurrected the Audi name. The company really made a name for itself in 1968 with the presentation of the Audi 100, a modern and elegant saloon car. One year later, in September 1969, at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the manufacturer took the plunge by deriving a coupé from its saloon - the 100 S! The lines were very much in the spirit of the times, very flattering and reminiscent of the famous Fiat Dino Coupé.

Like the Audi Sport Quattro and the Audi RS 2, the Audi 100 Coupé S is a pioneering model in the history of Audi sports design. It is the first Audi to bear the S badge, characteristic of the brand's sports cars. This "fastback" line, inspired by the American sports cars of the 1950s, could be no stranger to Audi's famous Sportback bodywork.

At the rear, its design is inspired by the Maserati Ghilbi and the Ford OSI. Between 1970 and 1976, Audi produced 30,684 examples of its 100 Coupé S.

Two versions were produced: the V1 with 115 bhp and the V2 with 112 bhp.

Under its bonnet was the 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine used in the Super 90, but re-bored to 1.9 litres - making it super-square. With the addition of two Solex carburettors (instead of just one on the Super 90), power increased from 90 bhp to 115 bhp. This was to remain the firm's most powerful engine until the introduction of the five-cylinder fuel injection system in 1976. It gave the 100 S coupé a top speed of 185 km/h and a 0 to 100 km/h time of 11 seconds.

This model was the first Audi worthy of a place in a collection, and the only one before the arrival of the Quattro.
