Model History

Introduced in 1956, the Mercedes 220 S Cabriolet was produced in limited numbers and finished by hand, which justified a price 75% higher than the 4-door version, it was one of the most sought after cars of the time.

Produced between 1958 and 1960, 1942 examples were produced during this period, of which 1200 units (cabrio + coupe) were produced in 1960. As of 2015, only 161 were reported in a US census, it was sold in Guatemala.

Equipped with a 2200cc in-line 6-cylinder engine and twin Solex carburettors, the Mercedes 220 S Convertible had a much higher than average build quality, not only in terms of luxury, but also in terms of materials.

The 220 Convertible A/C. was presented at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt. This new model with its elegant shape was technically based on the Type 220 A sedan, which had been in production for one and a half years. However, the chassis was shortened by 120 mm. Deliveries of this aesthetic model were to begin in the second quarter of the following year.
